PBS Announcer Training

The PBS Announcer training course gives you the basic skills to plan and put together a radio program of broadcast quality. Sessions are practical and include: writing for radio, interviewing skills, broadcast law, technical skills and planning a program. On completion of the course, students submit a demo for assessment, which may also be used to apply for a radio show on PBS.

The course runs over five consecutive weeks – generally held on a Monday or Wednesday night from 6.30 to 9pm.

Course Cost
PBS member fee: Full $270 Concession $180
PBS non member fee: Full $300 Concession $200

Students may book additional time in the PBS studio to practice operating the panel and to record their demo. The studio is available for practice bookings between 10am and 6pm, Monday to Friday.

The course is held at PBS studios in Collingwood.

If you have previous broadcasting experience

Please click on the link below and complete the Program submission form, including a 1 hour demo of your proposed show (CD format if possible) and send it to PBS "Attention: Program Manager".

Your show application should reflect the mission and values of PBS as the home of little heard music, and your show content should be music based in its orientation. Please also note that most of the programs on PBS focus on a specific genre of music (Blues & roots, Jazz, World, Metal, Electronic etc...) and your application is more likely to be successful if you have a strong focus on a particular genre of music.

PBS receives a large number of program submissions ongoing, so please be patient when waiting for a response.
